Abscess

An abscess is a localized inflammation swelling, containing pus. Abscess can develop externally on the skin, but also internally in the mouth or on other mucous membranes - these should be referred for qualified medical treatment. Treatment locally on the skin will generally involve hot compress or poultics to draw out the toxic waste matter, recurrent Abscess often indicate a weakened immunie system.

Home remedies for Abscess

Abscess Treatment using Aromatherapy and Essential Oils

Apply a hot compress to the area, by adding 5-6 drops of essential oil to a bowl of water as hot as you can bear, and soaking a piece of absorbent material in it. Suitable materials include lint, a clean handkerchief, or a face flannel. Fold over a couple of times for a thicker pad, and place on the Abscess, covering with a bandage or a piece of cling film to hold in position. Renew when cooling to body temperature, and keep on for at least 30 minutes.

Herbalism - Herbal Remedies for Abscess

Make a hot poultice from a herb such as Marshmallow ( Althea officinalis) for external treatment of the area. Either pour boiling water on to some fresh leaves, or mix the powdered root with hot water to make a paste. It may be helpful to use a little oil on the skin first to stop the poultice sticking, the then place the herb on the Abscess and cover with a clean gauze or strips of cotton. Such a poultice can be kept on for several hours, but may need replacing every couple of hours.

For mouth Abscess, it may be appropriate simply to place a hot compress, made with an infusion of chamomile.

Homeopathy Treatment

Hot compresses are likely to be suggested by doctor, perhaps using tinctures of Hypericum or Calendula. Pour 15 ml of hot water on to 2 drops of either remedy, and soak a piece of gauze in it. Place on the area and cover, renewing when cooling down. Internally take a few doses of either Hepar sulph if the abscess is hot, else Silica if the abscess feels cold to touch. These two home remedies are very good for suppurating skin conditions.

Naturopathy - Natural home cure for Abscess

Use cabbage leaves from the garden and cut out central rib and coarsely chop the leaves, pour on boiling water and make a poultice. This is very soothing and helps to draw out abscess infection.
