Home Remedies for Sleeplessness

Sleeplessness in children is normally due to the same reasons as in adults, i.e. over-stimulation or anxiety. There may also be pains, such as from teething that can stop a child getting off to sleep.

Natural Home Remedies for Sleeplessness

In the first instance, use herbal teas to act as gentle relaxants; Lime Blossom (Tilia europaea), Chamomile (Chamomilla recutita) and Hyssop (Hyssopus officinalis) are good choices. Give 5 ml (1 tsp) to under 3- year-olds, a 10 ml (2 tsp) for 3-to 8-year-olds and 15 ml (1 tbsp) to over 8 years, shortly before bed, with a little honey if needed.

A tissue with a drop of Lavender oil on it can be tucked under the pillow to have a steady calming effect too. Look at Insomnia, for other suggestions.
